Brief Synopsis of the Film
The film "Listen to Mr. Gopal Ji -A discussion on HIV/AIDS"
has been made as a part of the project called 'The Capacity
Building of Trade Unions on HIV/AIDS, gender and sexuality'
being implemented in 6 states of India by INTUC in
collaboration with the 'American Center for International
Labor Solidarity (Solidarity Center)'. It is a training film
that focuses on the basics of HIV/AIDS, transmission,
prevention, testing, myths and misconceptions, STIs, love,
care and support for a person infected with HIV/AIDS and the
need for workplace policies & intervention on HIV/AIDS. It
also raises issues of gender and sexuality in connection
with HIV/AIDS. The film has been made in Hindi with English
Subtitles. The film includes inaction of some practices and
beliefs around HIV/AIDS and the dialogues are largely based
on interactions and conversations with workers and trade
union affiliates during the fact finding and survey done
prior to the film. The film is intended to be used as a
training tool to help the trainers/facilitators, to conduct
sessions and raise awareness on HIV/AIDS, gender, sexuality
and related issues.
A handbook has been developed as a guide to the video film.
The handbook has been designed based on the contents of the
film. It gives detailed information on HIV/AIDS and related
issues. This handbook emphasizes the issues highlighted in
the film and provides greater clarity and explanations of
all the concepts in order to enable the facilitators in
conducting sessions. An effective way to use the training
film would be to pause/stop the film wherever suggested (in
the handbook) and then discuss the related issue(s) with the
participants. Alternatively the entire film can be screened
first followed by discussion on key issues. Javita Narang,
Program Consultant has been the key Technical Advisor for
the film. The film is based on the interactions and
conversations with workers and trade union members on issues
of gender, sexuality and HIV/AIDS and captures their
beliefs, mindsets, behaviors and practices vis-à-vis
HIV/AIDS. These trained union members further have been
conducting awareness sessions with workers, families and
communities on HIV/AIDS using the film as a key training
tool.
The handbook is also enclosed along with the film. -The link
to the handbook in acrobat and word format can be given.
